Ode To Robert Frost
by Laurie Benson©2018
I hung the words, "Your Life Is A Poem,"
on my classroom wall
yesterday,
and taught the children about
"Stopping in woods on a
snowy evening."
That "Poetry is emotion that
has been given words," like the
ones on the wall from
Naomi Shihab Nye.
"What does it mean, your
life is a poem?" they asked,
as we painted the
snowy woods with masking
tape for forest trees,
and black paint for
the, "lovely, dark and deep."
It means, I said, that you
write how you feel, and since
you feel all the time, your life
is
a
poem.
These are some of the
promises I have to keep
before I sleep. The
miles to go, helping children
express and identify their
emotions.
I'm just getting better
at it myself
after all these
miles
I have gone, and
all these
nights
I haven't slept.
